Increasing re-usability of Visualizations through Carousel Feature in Filter Object (Please Upvote)

Hi Piers,

I hope you are doing well too.

To explain the Carousel Feature on filter object please find my below detailed explanation about the requirement.

Explanation of the requirement:-

------------------------------------------

Let’s say there are 3 different Categories of KPIs (Cat1, Cat2, Cat3) and the user want to do a slider\slide show of each set of KPIs.

When we keep a Carousel , then the user can select one of the Category or click on the ‘<’ Left Arrow or ‘>’ right arrow to simply see a slide show of the same. For the user it will feel like a different page though he\she is just selecting a different Category from Categories filter. In the Filter object if we add this Carousel effect then it will be a very powerful object as it also has action to perform based on selections. You can also keep the Field values as smaller dots, that the user will be assuming it as a Carousel Slide show.

e.g.-

There is a Category field with values- Cat1, Cat2, Cat3.

And each category value is associated with set of KPIs.

a. Cat1 has KPI1, KPI2, KPI3
b. Cat2 has KPI4, KPI5, KPI6
c. Cat3 has KPI7, KPI8, KPI9

Let’s say these all KPIs (KPI1, KPI2, KPI3, KPI4 …) are shown in a similar format (either Line\Bar\Combo Chart or any other Chart\Graphics) in the Dashboard page.

a. KPI1, KPI4 and KPI7 are shown in Bar Graph as they represent similar information.

b. KPI2, KPI5 and KPI8are shown in KPI Designer object.

c. KPI3, KPI6 and KPI9 are shown in Pie Chart.

So when we represent the Category Filter in a Carousel Format like below

               image

Where each dot are different Category, the 1st one is Cat1, 2nd one is Cat2, 3rd one Cat3. And the ‘<’ Left arrow represents previous selection in the list where as ‘>’ right arrow represents as next selection in the list.

So in that case when some one clicks on 1st dot, it turns blue and automatically Cat1 will be selected in the Data Model, which ultimately activate KPI1, KPI2, KPI3. And the entire Dashboard page will only show the relevant information for these 3 KPIs only.

i.e.- KPI1 will show as a Bar Graph, KPI3 will show as a KPI Designer Object and KPI3 will show as a Pie chart.

And when 2nd Dot is clicked , it turns blue and automatically Cat2 will be selected in the Data Model, which ultimately activate KPI4, KPI5, KPI6. And the entire Dashboard page will only show the relevant information for these 3 KPIs only, without going to any other Dashboard page. i.e.- KPI4 will show as a Bar Graph, KPI5 will show as a KPI Designer Object and KPI6 will show as a Pie chart.

So on…

This way the same set of visualization will be reused for more number of similar KPIs which is smarter way of reutilizing the existing visualization for similar KPIs as well as when we have Carousel design for Category filter, the user will be simply feeling like he is watching a slide show of the relevant KPIs in the Dashboard page.

I hope I am able to make you understand how it will work and the use case.

Please let me know if you have more queries.

Best Regards

Sunil
