Troubleshooting extension errors using the Google Chrome Browser console


Google Chrome


1. Open the Console

Go to the screen where you are experiencing the error.

  • From the menu: View > Developer > JavaScript Console or More Tools > JavaScript Console
  • From the keyboard: Ctrl + Shift + J.


2. Identify the Error

The error console will open. If you don't see any errors try reloading the page. The error may be generated when the page loads.

The console will provide you with the error type, the location of the error and the line number

Mozilla Firefox


1. Open the Console

Go to the screen where you are experiencing the error.


  • from the menu: Web Developer > Browser Console | from the menu on Mac: (or Tools menu if you display the menu bar)
  • from the keyboard: Ctrl+Shift+J (or Cmd+Shift+J on a Mac).

2. Identify the Error

The error console will open. If you don't see any errors try reloading the page. The error may be generated when the page loads.

The console will provide you with the error type, the location of the error and the line number

Internet Explorer

1. Open the Console

Go to the screen where you are experiencing the error.


  • from the menu: Settings > F12 Developer Tools > Console
  • from the keyboard: F12 then Ctrl+2
