Vizlib Templates - Creating and Saving Templates

Vizlib Templates are sample visualizations with pre-loaded properties, which you can use to speed up the process of building your dashboards while keeping a consistent style and design structure. This article contains all the information you need to start creating and saving your own templates, we'll be using Vizlib Table as the example extension.

Templates Properties


If you're working with an extension that uses templates, you can find the controls in the property panel under Templates (Figure 1). There are 2 groups of properties. 

  • View Templates lets you choose, update and apply templates settings to your visualization.
  • Save allows you to save your template to use it again.

View Templates 


If you click View Templates, you'll open a window containing three tabs (Figure 2).

  • Vizlib - A set of pre-defined templates which you can apply with a single click. These will be visible to everyone using the extension.  
  • Published in -  Templates published within your organisation, (Vizlib is the organisation used in the example). These templates are only visible to users within your environment.
  • My Templates - Your own personal templates. These are only visible to you until they are published within the organisation.

Using Templates


Using Vizlib templates is designed to be very quick and easy. Figure 3 shows an example of a template being applied using Vizlib Table.  


  • Select the object where you want to add the template, then go to the property panel and click View Templates.
  • When the window opens, review the list of templates available.
  • Click the template you want to use. It'll be applied immediately, and the settings will refresh to show the updated appearance. 
  • If you'd like to adapt the template and add settings of your own, you can change them in the property panel. Figure 3 shows a change made to the header background, which you can find in the property panel under Appearance>Header>Background color

Saving Templates


Once you've completed all the changes to the template, click Save to open the window for saving your settings (Figure 4).

To save the example you have created, you need to enter a Thumbnail and a Title
There are two options for adding a thumbnail.

  • Take snapshot of current view will take a screenshot of your template (Figure 4 uses this option).
  • Upload Image uploads a file you want to use for the thumbnail (e.g. a company logo). 
  • Enter a Title in the text box, then click Save. You'll receive a pop-up confirmation when the template has been saved.


Your saved templates will appear in the My Templates section (see Figure 5).
